Step into the rich history of one of North Queensland's most iconic family businesses.
Celebrating 100 years of Marsh Butcheries, this special exhibition at Cairns Historical Society & Museum traces the journey of the Marsh family across four generations—from a single neighbourhood butcher shop to one of the region's longest-running family-owned wholesale and retail butcheries.
Featuring historic photographs, original butcher's tools, business records, memorabilia and personal stories, the exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into the people, traditions and craftsmanship that have shaped Marsh Butcheries for almost a century.
Visitors can also explore a dedicated Paddock to Plate display showcasing the history of North Queensland's cattle industry, traditional butchery practices and the vital role local producers have played in feeding the region.
Developed by fourth-generation family member Louise Marsh in collaboration with Exhibition Curator Sarah Morgan, the exhibition celebrates the enduring legacy of family business and its contribution to the commercial and social history of Cairns.
